Chicken Jigsaw Puzzles

Jigsaw puzzles seem old fashioned in this high tech society, but doing puzzles have many benefits.  While working on a jigsaw puzzle, it has been studied that there exists continuous activity throughout  the brain involving all the cells.  People engaged in jigsaw puzzles stood to gain a longer life span and less chance of falling prey to memory loss.  It makes us alert, increases our concentration, and expands our creativity.  Looking at the images constantly helps us practice visualization, which is again good aid for any physical activity that succeeds with mental activity.  It also affects our physical health by lowering our breath rate, reducing heart rate and blood pressure too.  Now, add chickens into the mix and we have an activity that helps our brain and satisfies our love for our favorite bird.

Excellent Gift Books for Chicken Lovers

There are so many wonderful books out there on the backyard poultry scene, that sometimes it is hard to know which one to give to a new or experienced chicken owner. The books with chicken themes have really exploded as more and more people take up the hobby. I have tried to list books that I think are especially good and ones that I have owned or looked at myself. Some of these choices should be in everybody’s chicken library and others are just fun to look at and dream.

Storey’s Illustrated Guide to Poultry Breeds by Carol Ekaruius is full of great information and eye catching color illustrations.
